Bali Boat Explosion Kills 2
An explosion on a ferry carrying more than 40 tourists between the Indonesian resort islands of Bali and Lombok on Thursday killed two people, an Indonesian and a Dutch national, while injuring 13 others.
The explosion occurred about 200 metres from Padang Bai port when the boat was on its way to the island of Gili Trawangan with more than 40 people on board.
Two foreigners died from severe injuries after being hit by boat debris and have been brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Other passengers, which include tourists from Portugal, Spain, Germany, Australia and Britain were evacuated and are currently receiving treatment.
Police have ruled out intentional explosion as the cause of the blast and said a short circuit near the fuel tank of the boat could have been the root cause.
