Three foreigners were injured while another was reported missing after a luxury yacht caught fire and capsized off Penang early this morning.
According to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), they received a satellite distress signal from the boat at 12.05 am.
It was understood that the boat had left the yacht club in Langkawi about 7 pm yesterday for Singapore and a fire was believed to have started at the engine section leading to an explosion.
Local fishermen then rescued the three injured men, who were spotted drifting in a life raft following the incident at about 3 am some 15 nautical miles west of Mukah Head.
The trio have been identified as Novak Novakovic, Rudolf Kolic and Jaroslav Horejsek, while another foreign man, Lucas Bondezan, was reported missing.
A search operation for the missing foreigner has commenced within a 10-mile radius from the point where the boat had capsized.
The rescued victims were sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment.
