Sabah Customs Foil Major Smuggling Attempt
Sabah Customs have foiled a major smuggling attempt with the seizure of 62 containers at Sepanggar Port near Kota Kinabalu bearing various items worth over RM 42 million.
It was the biggest ever seizure of smuggled items in the state.
Customs assistant director, Datuk Paddy Abd Halim said the contraband included alcoholic beverages, tyres, contraband cigarettes and rice.
He added the containers were shipped from Vietnam, China and Singapore while the items were declared as household goods, machinery and hardware.
No arrest has been made thus far and the Customs are trying to locate the sender as well as the receiver.
It is believed that the smuggling activities were carried out by syndicate groups which frequently use fake company addresses.
